Call for First Lady Nominations

Ambassadors for Economic Independence (AFEI) giving circle is proud to announce the launch of The First Lady - a new awards program to honor three single mothers of Prince George's County, Maryland that were the first in their family or community to break bariers to get a high school diploma, a college degree, or launched a successful business.

This Year's theme is Empowered to Create Greatness in My Family and Community and you can help AFEI find these hidden treasures in Prince George's County, Maryland. Awardees will be honored at VEINC's First Lady Luncheon on May 10 at 11 am - 1 pm at Oxon Hill Manor Library of Oxon Hill, Maryland. Each awardee will receive:
  • First Lady - High School Diploma - Laptop Computer
  • First Lady - College Degree - $500 Savings Bond
  • First Lady - Business Owner - $1,000 Savings Bond
Who is eligible?

A single mother who has been a Prince George's County resident for five years or more with tangible documentation showing proof of:
  • High School Diploma
  • College Degree
  • Business Ownership accompanied with a Certificate of Good Standing
  • Residency in Prince George's County, Maryland

Who can nominate?

Nominations can be made by anyone that can attest to the impact the nominees have made in their life, their family or community as a result of being the The First Lady to get a high school diploma, college degree, or launched a successful business. Nominations made by children twelve and under will need parental permission to be interviewed as part of the selection process. Self-nominations are prohibited.

The goal of The First Lady award is to eliminate the stigma associated with women-led families; demonstrate the power of single mothers, and to engage the community-at-large to invest in services and programs that create pathways to economic independence and stability for underserved women-led families.
